At age seven my brothers taught me how to sing harmony and keep a beat on an empty guitar case. Music and singing has surrounded me since the day I was born. My grandparents sang on live radio in the south. My mother and
Aunt have always sang ‘ my father played the guitar, my uncle the banjo, my brothers bass and guitar and my cousins- two guitar players and two drummers.
I started learning to play the guitar at the age of 12, watching my brothers and
cousins play music in our garage.
At the age of 14, I realized that my true interest lied in keyboards, because frankly, there were just too many guitar players in the family.
The first time I played an organ, (one of those “play by color” organs) was at a family friends home, after that I constantly begged my mother to take me with her to visit them. I would go to the mall just so I could play the pianos and organs at the music store. Usually I was asked to leave if I wasn’t purchasing anything but I always got a few licks in first! I received my first organ at the age of 15; my parents finally broke down and bought it for me. It was the type of organ that you would see in a living room, but that wasn’t cool so I cut it in half , painted it and added legs so it would look rock n’ roll. ( My parents were furious with me ). Unfortunately it had the sound of a toy, so off to the electronic guru (close friend!) to be experimented on. We built an analog delay unit from spare parts and added a few filters, which brought it closer to a rock n’ roll synthesizer sound. This would suffice for a few years in & out of neighborhood garage bands until I could afford something a little more hi-tech.
One day I came upon what was probably the first ever strap on keyboard called
“The Finger” sitting in a local music store. I had never imagined that by
trading a few guitar accessories I would become the proud owner of such a board.
(Keyboards of any quality were rare and expensive back then) This keyboard led
me into my first serious performing music band. We learned a few covers and
wrote the rest and actually had a pretty good run playing parties and concerts
locally. Prior and during this time my bothers had an all-original act playing
regional venues and trying to get signed. I would roady for them occasionally
and eventually took a job with the lighting and PA company they were working
with. The summer of my 16th birthday the owner of the company (also a family
friend) asked my parents permission to take me on the road for the summer to
work with national recording artists Frijid Pink They reluctantly agreed and off
I went to learn the ins and outs of a Touring road band. My work with Pink
continued for a few years on & off until the ultimate demise of the project.
Finally armed with a Hammond Organ and an analog poly synth I found myself
locked into playing a club circuit paying the dues and trying to earn a living
as an electronic tech during the day and musician by night. I took some time off
from the business in 1987 to get married to my lovely wife, Virginia. Start a family and raise my child “Timothy II”. Constantly writing and without an outlet I began building a home studio and eventually recording, mixing and producing my own material. I often would do session work for various recording projects in the area.
After a few years I joined a band that Terry Stafford had started with a few quality musicians, “Trilogy”, performing at Concerts, Festivals and clubs. Trilogy then recorded a song that I wrote which is used as a Theme song for a community based police television program.
Early in 2001, Clyde Stevers (Frijid Pink’s Manager), Terry Stafford, Randy Mac (Step One recording artist) and Rick Stevers (Frijid Pink’s original drummer) asked me to join them in reforming Frijid Pink For a new CD release and a road tour.
I reluctantly left Trilogy to pursue the project full time. The pink project fizzled after recording a new cd. The members then went on to reserect Gunslinger ( Randy’s old band ) & after recording a commercial for International Harvester I left the project and returned to Trilogy.
Here's a feather in my cap - I have performed with Nationally renowned Savage Grace which included all pro musicians including Mark Gusion "Mitch Ryder's Bassist" Warming up for the Turtles .
